Situation: On the plane.(飛機上)
Michael is going to Taiwan on business. He is sitting next to Anna, who is coming home from vacation.

Anna:Hello, my name's Anna. Are you American?

Michael:Yes. I'm Michael. I'm going to Taiwan for business. What about you? You're going home?

Anna:Yes, I had a fabulous vacation in California. The waves at Huntington Beach are wonderful!

Michael:So you're a surfer! I can tell from your tan that you must've had a great time there.

Anna:Are you interested in surfing, too? What's your favorite outdoor activity?
Anna:

Michael:I love all kinds of outdoor activities. Surfing, rafting, and hiking. I deal in sports equipment.

Anna:Are you a sales rep or ...?
Anna:

Michael:I'm a purchasing manager, and actually, I'm from California, too. What other outdoor activities do you usually do?

Anna:I also go diving, and the marine life is spectacular. I just love the beach life.

Michael:I enjoy diving, too, and I happen to know that Taiwan has several good places for diving.

Anna:That's true. Maybe I can take you to those places if you've got some time.
Anna:

Michael:It'll be a pleasure. Thank you very much.
Michael:
1. I can tell from your...that you must ...(從你的 ...,我知道 ...)

例:I can tell from your tan that you must've had a great time there.(從妳的膚色看來,我相信妳一定玩得很開心。)

另外,"must've" 是口語上非正式的用法,是 "must have" 的縮寫。例:I can tell from your smile that you must be satisfied with their report.(從你臉上的笑容看來,我相信你一定很滿意他們的報告。)

2. I deal in ...(名詞子句)(我從事 ...。)

例:I deal in sports equipment.(我從事運動用品業。)

3. I happen to know that ...(從屬子句)(我剛好知道 ...。)

例:I happen to know that Taiwan has several good places for diving.(我剛好知道台灣有些地方是潛水勝地。)

Julia happens to know that there's a barbershop near the corner.(Julia 剛好知道轉角有間理髮院。)

Situation: At the airport.(在機場)
Vicky, a sales rep, is waiting to pick up her customer, Michael, a purchasing manager from the US.

Vicky:Excuse me. You must be Mr. Becker. My name's Vicky. Nice to meet you.

Michael:Nice to meet you, too, and please call me Michael.

Vicky:OK. Here's my business card. I'll be taking care of you here in Taipei. So, how was your flight?

Michael:It was fantastic. Thank you. And here's my card. I'm the purchasing manager for Olympic Sports.

Vicky:And I'm a sales rep of the EnglishDNA Company. It will be my pleasure to show you a full range of our products.

Michael:Your products are of very good quality, and we've been getting good feedback from our customers.

Vicky:Thank you so much, and I will give you a thorough presentation on our products in the office tomorrow.

Michael:Well, I'm looking forward to it. I believe we will conclude a satisfactory deal for both of us.

Vicky:I'm glad to hear that. Now, how about going to the hotel first for a rest?

Michael:Great. I'm ready to get rid of my baggage and explore the city.
Michael:

Vicky:So is it your first time to Taipei?
Vicky:

Michael:Yes, and I can't wait to have a taste of the Chinese culture.
Michael:

Vicky:I'm sure you're going to have a super time here. After all, Taipei is a city that never sleeps. But after you check in, shall we go to lunch together?

Michael:Of course. It'll be great to start my adventure with some exotic food.
Michael:
1. How about / What about ...(...

例:What about a cup of coffee?(喝杯咖啡怎麼樣?)

Shall we go to the movies this evening?(我們今晚去看電影怎樣?)

2. It's my honor to ...(我很榮幸 ...。)

例:It's my honor to be your guest.(成為您的客人是我的榮幸。)

It's my honor to ..." I'm honored to walk you home.(能陪你走回家是我的榮幸。)

3. ... show a full range of ...(呈現完整一系列的 ...。)

例:Can you show me a full range of your products?(你可以替我展示你們一系列的產品嗎?)

說明:"a full range of" 是指「一系列,一整套」,full 也可以用 complete、entire、whole 代替。例:This store has a complete range of gardening tools.
