Mary: OK, I've decided to apply to four U.S. schools.
Dennis: Good. Deciding which schools to apply to is half the battle.
Mary: I'm not so sure of that. I still have a lot to do. Like the essays, for example.
Dennis: Those can be a pain. Some of the topics require some real 1)soul-searching.
Mary: A lot of the schools ask for a personal statement. I don't know what to write. Can you help me?
Dennis: Sure, why don't you do some writing today and tomorrow and then I'll 2)critique it for you?
Mary: Great, thanks!
Two days later
Mary: Here's what I wrote. Tell me what you think, and be honest.
Dennis: OK. I won't pull any punches.
Mary: [Dennis reads over Mary's writing]So, what's the 3)verdict?
Dennis: Hmm. You've got some good things in your personal 4)statement, but Ithink there's room for improvement.

丹尼斯：可以，妳何不利用今明兩天寫寫，然後我再給妳意見？
瑪 莉：太好了，謝謝你！
兩天後
瑪 莉：我寫了這些。告訴我你怎麼想，要老實說喔。
丹尼斯：好的。我不會有任何保留的。
瑪 莉：（丹尼斯讀了瑪莉寫的東西。）所以你的高見是？
丹尼斯：嗯。妳的自述有些地方不錯，但我覺得還有進步空間。
