Jeff and Sandra are at a bar together on a date.
Jeff和 Sandra 一起在酒吧約會。
Sandra：So, can you tell me what your sign is?

Jeff：My sign? Don't tell me you actually believe in that junk.

Sandra：Well, not necessarily. But it might be interesting to know.

Jeff：Well, I was born in June. I think that makes me a Gemini.

Sandra：A Gemini? Wow, that means you're going to be good at a lot of different things. You're very enthusiastic and energetic.

Jeff：Hmmm… Well now maybe there is something to this after all. That description is spot-on.
嗯，也許這裡頭終究有些學問吧。那樣的描述真是對極了。
Sandra：Hold on there, I wasn't finished! Geminis are also easily distracted and very insecure.

"Dialogue 1" 相關實用句型：
1. Maybe there is something to this after all.
（也許這裡頭終究有些學問吧。）
"there is something" 表示「有些事」，而 "to this" 中的 to 是介系詞，"to this" 為一形容詞片語，修飾 something。"something to this" 按字面意義為「對於這件事有些事情」，因此引申為「這件事有些學位在裡面」。副詞片語 "after all" 是「畢竟」、「終究」之意。 | |

進階對話【Dialogue 2】On a Blind Date（去相親）
James is going to go out on a blind date. He is talking to his best friend Sally for advice.
James 正要出去相親；他請他的好友 Sally 指點迷津。
James：This is a terrible idea. I can't believe I let you talk me into this. 這真是令人匪夷所思。真不敢相信我竟讓妳說服去做這件事！
Sally：Come on! You need this. You've been sitting at home like a couch potato ever since you broke up with your girlfriend. You need to get back out there!
別這樣，這是你需要的。自從你和女朋友分開之後，你就一直成天臥在家裡的沙發上。你要離開那樣的生活！
James：What if I don't like her? 那萬一我不喜歡她怎麼辦？
Sally：Are you crazy? You'll love her – she's one of my best friends. She's smart and beautiful, and she's got a great sense of humor. She's every guy's dream!
你瘋了喔？你會愛上她的 ─ 她是我最要好的朋友之一。她既聰慧又漂亮，而且很有幽默感。她是每個男人的夢中情人。
James：Well, now I'm even more nervous. If she's so great, won't she be disappointed when she sees me?
嗯，我現在更緊張了。要是她真的這麼好，她看到我時不會失望嗎？
Sally：Hmmm…. Yeah, she probably will.

James：Thanks a lot! 真是感謝。
Sally：I'm just joking. You're a wonderful guy. Just try to remember that. Be confident in who you are and don't try to disguise your true feelings.

James：I suppose. But maybe I should do something special for her.

Sally：Well, just last night my boyfriend gave me a pearl necklace. I felt so amazed afterwards! He even took a picture so he could show everyone how I looked.

James：A pearl necklace? Are you crazy? Isn't that a little forward for a first date?

Sally： Well, girls love that kind of thing. But whatever you do, I'm sure everything's going to be great. She's a sweet girl, and you're an awesome guy. I'm sure you'll hit it off.
嗯，女孩都喜歡那種東西。但不管你做什麼，我確信一切都將完美。她是個甜美的女孩，而你是個大帥哥。我相信你們會一拍即合的。
"Dialogue 2" 相關實用句型：
2. You've been sitting at home like a couch potato ever since you broke up with your girlfriend.
（自從你和女朋友分開之後，你就一直成天臥在家裡的沙發上。）
couch 是一種長椅沙發，又稱作「睡椅」，而 potato 是「馬鈴薯」，表示像馬鈴薯一樣一動也不動，因此 "couch potato" 常被直譯為「沙發馬鈴薯」，就是指那種「沒事就躺在長沙發上看電視的人」。
「和某人分手」可以用 "to break up with sb."、"to split up with sb." 或 "to part with sb." 表示。
3. Be confident in who you are and don't try to disguise your true feelings.
（對自己要有自信，別試圖掩飾自己的真實情感。）
「對... 有自信╱信心」可以用 "be confident in / of..." 表示，confident 之後也可接「that 子句」，句中的 "who you are" 是一個名詞子句，字面意義為「你是誰」，"be confident in who you are" 意即「對自己（的身分）有信心」
4. I'm sure you'll hit it off.
(我相信你們會一拍即合的。）
這裡的 you 是指「你們」。"to hit it off" 表示「相處融洽」或「一見如故」，例如 "They hit it off well with each other from the very beginning."（他們從一開始時就相處得很融洽。）
