At a diner
Mei: Why did you bring me to a diner?
Brad: This is an important part of American 1)culinary history. This is Americana. A nice burger and fries, a milkshake, and a piece of cherry pie.
Mei: So what does this have to do with my idea?
Brad: Watch who's here and what they order, dear. Look, that man is here at 2 p.m. He ordered lemon 2)meringue pie and coffee.
Mei: So? That woman is eating chocolate cake and drinking hot chocolate.
Brad: And those girls are eating Pecan pie and drinking apple 3)cider. None of their bills will be over seven dollars.
Mei: I see. OK, that's useful. And these desserts are basically what you'd make at home.
Brad: Right. They all remind you of the comfort of home.
Mei: I've heard that before—4)comfort food. I thought that meant it's bad for you.
Brad: Well, a lot of comfort food is unhealthy. That's the average American, although it's getting better.
Mei: But the point is—4)homemade and 5)nostalgic.
Brad: Good. You got that. So let's move on.
