Dialogue A
(Michael is talking to the school principal, Miss Dakar.)
Michael: Thanks for letting me do this, Miss Dakar.
Miss Dakar: No problem, Michael. It's very nice of you to volunteer to teach our kids.
Michael: I've been traveling around India and I want to give something back in return.
Miss Dakar: Great. How long will you be able to stay here?
Michael: I have one more week left before I have to fly back to Taiwan.
Miss Dakar: Let me tell you the ins and outs of our school.
(麥可正在跟校長達卡女士談話。)
麥 可：謝謝您讓我做這份工作，達卡女士。
達 卡：好說好說，麥可。你人真好，還自願教我們的小朋友。
麥 可：我一直在印度旅遊，所以想要回饋一下。
達 卡：太好了。你能在這裡待多久？
麥 可：我飛回台灣之前還剩下一個星期的時間。
達 卡：讓我來告訴你有關這間學校的一切。
Dialogue B
Michael: I'm all ears.
Miss Dakar: The children you'll be teaching are street kids. They've had rough lives.
Michael: What do you mean?
Miss Dakar: All of them have been deserted by their families and now live in an orphanage.
Michael: Does this mean they have given up learning?
Miss Dakar: Just the opposite. These kids cherish any chance to learn. They know that this is their only opportunity to do something with their lives.
Michael: That's great.
麥 可：我洗耳恭聽。
達 卡：你要教的孩子都是流浪街頭的小朋友。他們的命都不太好。
麥 可：您的意思是？
達 卡：他們都被家人遺棄，現在住在孤兒院裡。
麥 可：那是不是表示他們已經放棄學習了？
達 卡：正好相反。這些孩子珍惜任何學習的機會。他們知道這是他們能為自己的生命做些什麼的唯一機會。
麥 可：那真是太好了。 |
