Mike and Sophie are meeting for the second time. Sophie has just arrived and looks somewhat upset.
Mike和 Sophie 第二次見面。Sophie 剛到達，且看起來有點苦惱。
Sarah：Hi Mike. I'm sorry I'm so late.
Sarah：嗨，Mike。抱歉，我遲到了。
Michael：Don't worry about it. Gosh, you look so upset! Is anything wrong?
Michael：沒關心。天呀，你看起來很苦惱，發生什麼事了嗎？
Sarah：As a matter of fact I've just had a fight with my husband. Sometimes I feel like he doesn't understand me. It's like everything I say just goes in one ear and out the other.
Sarah：實際上，我剛和我的丈夫爭吵。有時我覺得他不了解我。似乎我所說的話他一耳進，一耳出。
Michael：I understand how you feel. All relationships have to be built on communication. If you love someone, you expect that person to show that they care for you.
Michael：我瞭解你的感受。所有的關係都必須建立在溝通上。如果你喜歡一個人，你就會期待那個人對你表現在乎的樣子。
Sarah：I apologize for all this. I really don't want to burden you with my problems. I know you're here to learn Chinese.
Sarah：我為這一切表示道歉。我真的不想讓我的問題成為你的負擔。我知道你來這裡是要學中文的。
Michael：That's ok, I just want to help you feel better. It's clear that this is really hurting you, so if you need to talk I'm here for you.
Michael：沒關係，我只想幫助你心情好一點。很明顯地，這件事真的傷害到你，所以如果你需要聊聊，我願意傾聽。
Sarah：Thank you. You are such a good friend. In times like this it's good to know I can count on you.

"Dialogue 1" 相關實用句型：
1. All relationships have to be built on communication.
（所有的關係都必須建立在溝通上。）
抽象名詞 relationship 為可數，表示「各種關係」。我們常用這個句子來鼓勵對方：多溝通可以少一點爭執。

Sarah is now working directly for Dave as his assistant. Dave has just walked into the office.
Sarah 是 Dave 的助理，她的工作直接對他負責。Dave 剛走進了辦公室。
Dave：Sarah! Have you managed to find that report on current trends in advertising?
Dave：Sarah！關於那份廣告流行趨勢的報告，你去找了沒？
Sarah：No Mr. Jackson, I'm so sorry, I don't think it's in here. I have been looking all day.
Sarah：沒有，Jackson 先生。很抱歉，我不認為它在這裡。我一整天都在找。
Dave：All day??? You mean you forgot to clean my office? That group of investors will be coming any minute now! Also, I asked you to wash my car and it doesn't look like you did that either.
Dave：整天？你是說你忘記清掃我的辦公室？那群投資人可隨時都會到耶！而且，我要求你洗我的車，看來這件事你也沒做吧。
Sarah：I apologize Mr. Jackson, but I feel swamped with work. You gave me so much to do, and I think that a lot of it is not related to my job.
Sarah：Jackson 先生，很抱歉，因為我覺得工作份量很重。您給我這麼多事情做，而我認為大部分事情與我的工作不相關。
Dave：What do you mean?
Dave：你這是什麼意思？
Sarah：Well, come on! I graduated from Harvard. Don't you think it's a little beneath me to be washing your car and cleaning your office? I thought I would be working in advertising, not housekeeping.
Sarah：哎呀，拜託！我是哈佛大學畢業的。您不認為替您洗車和清掃辦公室有失我的身份嗎？我認為我的工作應該是廣告，不是家事。
Dave：Beneath you! Why you little ingrate! I gave you a job and this is how you repay me??

Sarah：I'm so sorry sir. I was just feeling a bit stressed because of all this work. I promise I won't speak like that again.

Dave：Hmmm… Well maybe I should try to be more understanding. After all, you're young and you have so much enthusiasm. Perhaps there are more appropriate services you could perform for me. I'll tell you what, why don't you meet me for a drink after work and we can discuss this further. You know, I like to maintain good relations with my employees.
Dave：嗯，也許我應該更體諒你一些。畢竟，你還年輕，而且這麼有熱忱。或許還有更多適當的工作是你能為我效勞的。這樣吧，我們下班之後相約見個面，我們可以更進一步地討論這件事情。你知道的，我喜歡和我的員工維持良好的關係。
Sarah：Umm... Well... I'm not really sure that's appropriate. Besides, I'm always so tired after work.
Sarah：嗯…這個嘛…我實在不確定那是適當的工作。此外，下班後我總是感到很疲累。
Dave：What?!?! Too tired to meet with your boss? Why that's outrageous! I really thought you had more commitment to this position!
Dave：什麼？！和你的老闆見面會累？這真是令人髮指！我以為你對這份工作很有向心力！
Sarah：I'm so sorry, sir! I don't mean to sound like I don't value this job.
Sarah：拜託，對不起，先生。我不是故意表現對這份工作不珍惜。
Dave：Well, alright, but remember to be more respectful next time.
Dave：嗯，好吧！不過記住，下次要尊重一點。
"Dialogue 2" 相關實用句型：
2. I apologize Mr. Jackson, but I feel swamped with work.
（Jackson 先生，很抱歉，因為我覺得工作份量很重。）
apologize 是不及物動詞，這裡的 "Mr. Jackson" 是對對方的稱呼，不是受詞。這裡的 but 表示轉折的效果，並非對等連接詞的用法可以為「因為...」。常見用法有 "I'm sorry but I..."（很抱歉，因為...）。動詞 swamp 表示「使忙得不可開交」，例如：
Henry was swamped with work.（Henry 的工作多得難以招架。）
3. I really thought you had more commitment to this position!
（我以為你對這份工作很有向心力！）
說明：名詞 commitment 是由動詞 commit 衍生而來，相當於 dedicate 或 devote，"to commit... to... "表示「將... 託付給」。因此名詞 commitment 仍然與介系詞 to 搭配。
4. I don't mean to sound like I don't value this job.
（我不是故意表現對這份工作不珍惜。）
說明：動詞 mean 為及物動詞，表示「意圖╱打算」，其後常以不定詞作為其受詞。此外，我們也常見到這樣的說法：
I didn't mean it!（我不是故意的！）或者：
Don't think I am joking; I mean business.（不要以為我是在開玩笑，我可是當真的。）
