ENCOURAGE and COMFORT
To encourage means to give hope or confidence to someone. You want them not to give up, but to try again.
To comfort someone means to soothe someone's hurt feelings or make them feel better when they are feeling down. You let the person know you understand.
Ex. Teachers encourage their students to get good grades. Tommy comforted his sister when her puppy died.
