Dialogue 1】Kids' Chinese New Year(孩子的新年) Ben and Cherry are meeting in the park. Chinese New Year has just ended. Cherry:Hey Ben! Long time no see! Ben:Tell me about it! I feel like we haven't talked in ages. So how was Chinese New Year for you? Cherry:I had a great time. All my relatives gave me red envelopes. I really cleaned up this year! Ben:I'm so jealous! How was the food? Cherry:Are you kidding? It was spectacular! My aunt makes the best dumplings. We look forward to them all year! Ben:Wow! Those are my favorite too! My grandmother says that eating them can make you rich and prosperous. Cherry:I don't know about that, I just love the taste. Ben:It sure sounds like it! Maybe next year you can save me some, and we'll get rich together! 1. Eating dumplings can make you rich and prosperous.
Dialogue 2】A Couple's Chinese New Year(小倆口的新年) Frank and Jenny are married. They are preparing for dinner on the first day of Chinese New Year. Jenny:Frank, are you almost ready? Frank:Just a sec, I still need to get dressed. Did you fill all the red envelopes? Jenny:Relax – I told you I'm on the ball. But I still think 200 NT is too much to give. Frank:Come on! Don't be such a tightwad! It's a special occasion! I think you agonize too much about these little things. Jenny:I just hope you don't get too inebriated this year. Remember what happened last time? Frank:Oh…It wasn't that big a deal… Jenny:Not a big deal?? You almost blew your hand off playing with those firecrackers! Why can't you just sit and play mah-jongg with the rest of us instead of going out and cavorting with your irresponsible brothers? Frank:Look who's talking about irresponsible! Do I need to remind you about how much of our money you lost last year? I think your sister bought a new car with her winnings! Jenny:Well I can't help it if I had bad luck. Frank:Fine – let's just bury the hatchet. We'll both try to be more responsible. And for now, let's just focus on having a good time tonight. It's a celebration, after all. I think you agonize too much about these little things. 因此 "to agonize about sth." 3. Stop going out and cavorting with your irresponsible brothers. 4. Let's just focus on having a good time tonight. "to focus on sth." 此外,focus 當名詞時,表示「焦點」,例如,「觀注的焦點」為 "focus of concern"、「轉移焦點」是 "to shift the focus"、「使...成為焦點」是 "to bring... into focus"。 | |
