【電話禮儀】
The new graduate, Joyce, has a problem at work. She asks Brian for advice.
剛畢業的 Joyce 在工作上遇到了個難題。她向 Brian 尋求協助。
Joyce：Hey, Brian, may I ask you a question?

Brian：Sure.

Joyce：I'm not sure about the standard procedure of answering phones in this company. Can you please tell me what exactly I should do when answering phones?
我無法確定這間公司接電話的標準程序是什麼。你可以告訴我到底我接電話的時候應該怎麼做嗎？
Brian：No problem. First of all, when the phone rings, you have to pick it up ASAP. More specifically speaking, you'd better pick it up before the fifth ring.

Wow, it seems that I have to pick up the phone within three seconds once it rings.

重要字詞講解：1. ask for 詢問
例：She asks Brian for advice.（她向 Brian 尋求協助。）
例：This problem is so difficult that I need to ask Fenny for help.

2. answer the phone 接電話
例：I'm not sure about the standard procedure of answering phones in this company.
（我無法確定這間公司接電話的標準程序是什麼。）

※ 小叮嚀：
要表達「接聽電話」的用法，除了可以說「answer the phone」之外，也可以用「pick up the phone」來表示。另外，「掛電話」則是「hand up the phone」。
3. ASAP = as soon as possible 儘快
例：First of all, when the phone rings, you have to pick it up ASAP.

主詞 + ask + 某人 + for + something

（他剛來到這個城市而且迷路了。他需要向某人尋求協助。）
※ 小叮嚀：
當你欲表達「向他人尋求協助時」，我們通常會使用「ask + somebody
+ for + something」。除此之外，「ask for」這個片詞也可解釋為「要求」，例如：Those workers want to ask for higher salaries.（那些工人們想要求更高的薪水。）

※ 小叮嚀：
1. 在接聽電話時，不同於台灣「喂∼ 我是…」的用法，在英語文法中，不可使用「 I am…」，而須用「 This is … speaking.」來表示。
2. 切記，「接電話」的說法除了 "answer the phone" 之外，還可說成 "pick up the phone"。而「掛電話」則為 "hand up the phone"。另外，如果在講電話的同時，要「請對方稍等一下」，則以 "hold up the phone" 示之。
3. 藉由…來發洩
release + something + by + 動名詞（V-ing）
