•故事內容：
有條蛇常被踩到 （A snake was trodden on by so many people ），跑去跟宙斯抱怨 （that it went and complained to Zeus）。宙斯說：「如果第一個人踩到你，你咬了他一口 （" If you had bitten the first man who trod on you, " said Zeus,），那之後就不大敢踩到你了 （" the next one would have thought twice about doing it."）。」
能勇敢反抗第一個來攻擊你的人，其他人就不大敢來欺負你了（Those who stand up to a first assailant make others afraid of them.）。
